Ridgebacks are pack animals. They can not live in a kennel outside, they need room to run. If you cannot provide proper exercise, then this is not the dog for you.
Rhodesian Ridgeback is a large, muscular dog originally bred in South Africa. It's also know as the African Lion Hound. This is the Navy Seal dog breeds. The noble hound is so regal and proud and loyal. The Rhodesian Ridgeback very intelligent has a quiet, gentle temperament, rarely barking. They can be strong willed, brave, mischievous, sensitive, dignified, independent and sometimes domineering.
Ridgebacks can be instantly alert if a stranger should appear or when in pursuit of legitimate prey. They are outstanding in the sport of hunting lions on horseback. They earned their feed as big-game hunters, watchdogs, guardians and herders. Developed not only to hunt but also as a family protector, their affectionate disposition make them a trustworthy companion for a small children. Ridgeback's are easily trained, being of above average tractability are a pleasure as a companion, hunting partner or as a show dog or obedience competitor.
This tireless dog would make a great jogging companion or running along side a bike. They have great stamina and do very well on long walks a free roam in a yards and parks.
The Rhodesian Ridgeback has a very distinct marking along their backs, which is created by hair growth in the opposite direction. Coat is short, dense and should remain glossy and sleek. This breed's coat does not trap dirt well and is generally clean. The breed can be light wheaten or red wheaten, nose can be black, brown or liver.
